Hints & Tips

Using sealed content offline

Your rights allow you to continue working even when you are disconnected from the network and unable to connect to the License Server. This is because the Unsealer keeps a local cache of your rights on your computer. However, cached rights expire after a specified period - normally a few days.

If you want to be able to work offline, for example because you have a laptop and you often work at home or while traveling, then SealedMedia recommends that you set up a rights synchronization task on your computer. A synchronization task can run at regular intervals or specified times of day to refresh your rights. See the Unsealer help for further information.

Alternatively, if you want to refresh your rights immediately, you can use the Synchronize button in the Unsealer toolbar (see below) at any time. Simply open a sealed document and click the button.

Using sealed content on multiple devices

To use sealed content on more than one computer, for example both a desktop and a laptop, you must use the rights check-in feature. You can switch from using a sealed file on one machine to another, as follows:

Note: If you do not check in your rights before moving to another computer, when you try to open a sealed file on the second computer you will be told that your rights are currently held on another computer. If you see this message, follow the steps above to check in your rights on the first computer. This behavior helps prevent users sharing their credentials by ensuring that rights are only available to machine at a time. Note that the usage of sealed documents is audited, and the audit trail can show which machines have used which rights. In the event that users share their credentials, the audit trail will show which machines those credentials have been used on, and which documents have been accessed.

Discovering your document rights

If you are ever having problems trying to print, edit, etc. sealed documents, you can find out exactly what rights you have been granted.
